Camping:

This
year we will work hard to provide good camping options. Camping in
the Reno area is challenging because there is very little down in the "valley"
and scenic spots are impossible to predict the weather in advance.
Having said that, what we feel are some some good options, weather permitting:
Dog Valley Campground
This
campground is northwest out of boomtown and is kinda fun to get to from
Boomtown ( Note: hard pack gravel but scenic!) Figure 30minutes
+/- from Boomtown. Click on arrow above for details on this campground.
30minutes may sound like a lot, but it is out the back door of boomtown
and you're not crossing urban areas etc -instead climbing up into a very
scenic area.
Lookout Campground
Very
similar to Dog Valley ..and about 5 minutes furthter up the road.
Logger Campground
This
campground has more amenities, etc (read details on link). It is
aprox 45minutes away though, but the interesting thing is that you can
get to Boomtown via all pavement, or via 95% dirt ...so it may be an interesting
place to consider for some.
Some
random thoughts on camping:
-These
campsites are all at over 6000feet elevation ...which means that
weather in early June could be a factor. Just something to think
about.
-There
are a nearly infinate amount of unimproved campsites that can be used.
You could likely get closer to Boomtown, you *might* be able to get lower
elevation, ...but it is hit miss and it may take a bit of adventure scouting
to find the perfect spot for you. Of course, It'll be just you and
what you have on your strom! Not all will have industrial firepits,
picnic tables etc etc. An option for the truly rugged!
-Remember,
there will be fellow stromers staying at the luxurious :-) Boomtown
Hotel and many will be glad to open up their rooms and showers for you.
I expect we'll have at least one room set aside for just this purpose.
Also, the truckstop at Boomtown has showers and this truck stop constantly
wins truck stop awards (for whatever that is worth).
-We'll
be scouting other options, watching the weather and the spring thaw ......so
stay tuned!
